since I was asked to teach Digital Photography at my local Community College
four years ago.
I spent a great deal of time
researching what text to use. I become very attached to the manual I choose to
learn each software package. I spend hours researching what type of choices I
have. In the old days, that meant a lot of time in the bookstores. Today I
spend days selecting which text books to request as desk copies and reviewing
before selecting the exact required text.
I know as a life long learner getting the right resources can be as costly as the software learning is work, and you want good reference materials. That being said when the time comes to update my reference library for the next version of Photoshop I know I will be researching each book Scott Kelby writes. I require that the text be affordable. My students work hard for each educational dollar they have I want to show respect for that.
Scott has exactly the examples and the step-by-step procedures my students and I need to quickly fall in love with each version of Photoshop. Anyone who has made the investment in time to learn Photoshop knows that each version is so packed with new features it takes time to grasp all it has to offer. Scott creates current examples of short cuts, that GET RIGHT TO THE POINT. The rich graphic detail in each example clearly shows what effect your steps have on the graphic. Youre not just reading how to do it you are guided step by step so YOU CAN DO IT! My students can easily follow the examples. And that leaves me more time to build excitement into my classes. Workshops are so productive and the students leave each week with an I did this attitude.
Scotts Photoshop CS2 book is no exception. It is another excellent value and my first choice to learn each version of Photoshop. Plus with each version you keep older versions of his books because the examples are so rich. Many times when students or clients are looking for a specific look using Scotts manuals is a great resource for giving them ideas.
And with all the texts have to offer they are supported by a great web site, training videos, and more examples.
Scotts text books are the best value for my training dollar. Im looking forward to his CS3 books!
